Originally, a yacht was a light, rather fast sailing vessel used by the Dutch navy. In fact, the word comes from the Dutch “jacht” which means, “hunt.” When people refer to a yacht today, they usually mean a large, luxurious boat that spends most of its time on the ocean, often close to shore, or on a large lake.
